Lots of support for fireworks show

Poulsbo’s unique fireworks show and celebration on July 3 was enjoyed by many thousands of people, some 6,000 in Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park alone. Many thousands watched from around the shores of Liberty Bay and from as far away as College Marketplace.

Poulsbo’s unique fireworks show and celebration on July 3 was enjoyed by many thousands of people, some 6,000 in Muriel Iverson Williams Waterfront Park alone. Many thousands watched from around the shores of Liberty Bay and from as far away as College Marketplace.

The show was a beautiful and fitting tribute to those patriotic men and women who fought for our country’s independence — an independence declared 235 years ago beginning a long war with England to make that declaration a reality.

Our national anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner,” sung by the aptly named choral group, The Independents, began our opening ceremony that evening. That anthem harkens to another war fought to preserve that independence. Memorial Day and Veterans Day similarly honor those who fought and too often died in defense of this great nation and the ideals upon which it was founded.

On behalf of Viking Fest Corporation, we wish to thank those businesses who contributed financially to making the show possible. Port Madison Enterprises/Clearwater Casino was our major sponsor, donating two-thirds of the cost. Hill Moving and Storage and the Loft Restaurant were among other commercial sponsors.

We are especially appreciative of those individuals who made donations on behalf of themselves and their friends and neighbors who viewed the show. Their donations enabled us to put on an even better show for the community. Thank you.

The work of putting on a community celebration is done by those who are behind the scenes and I would like to acknowledge them.

The Poulsbo Police Department ensured that a safe celebration was held and that traffic could (eventually!) clear the downtown area after the show.

The city’s Public Works Department did much to prepare for the festival and helped put Poulsbo’s best foot forward for our many out-of-town visitors.

As president of Viking Fest Corporation, I also want to acknowledge the volunteers who make up our membership for their hard work in planning, organizing, and conducting the celebration. And last, but not least, I want to thank Mayor Erickson and the City Council for supporting us in this effort.

Ron Krell, president
Viking Fest Corporation
