Why not paint
the town orange?
Walking through downtown Port Orchard, I was struck by how little the town has changed in the 19 years I’ve lived here.
It’s true, there is undeniable charm to our quaint little city, but it stands out very little among the other cities in our area.
My eye caught the orange flags at either side of downtown’s crosswalks.
The idea behind these orange flags is simple — you wave one around as you cross the road, alerting traffic to your presence.
What if our city alerted the Northwest to our presence and performed an attention-grabbing action, waving a metaphorical orange flag?
As I strode through the crosswalk, flag in hand, I thought Port Orchard about the town’s paint scheme.
It?s been a hot topic of discussion in our city.
So why not paint the town orange and change its persona?
It is a fusion of two colors, bringing yellow and red together to form something new and brilliant — just as many great things combine to form our city.
What better way to assert our individuality, ignite tourism, and create buzz about Port Orchard than to do something as unexpected and vibrant?
