Is it now a problem finding people to work for your paper who are able to read? If so, then why on earth could they not read the signs posted at the entrances of Point No Point Lighthouse and Park that state “Animals must be kept on a leash at all times?” You printed on page 26, of your 2010 North Kitsap Almanac, a picture of a woman in violation of this law, and you state in a paragraph, “The long stretch of sandy beach is a second home for many families, fishermen and frisbee-fetching dogs during summer months.”

How could you be so callous and obviously stupid?

Was there not one person on your staff who can read? We have a constant, ongoing problem with dogs that are let loose at this beach. Would you like to throw a frisbee and step in dog excrement while doing it? Would you like your children to build sandcastles with dog excrement? Do you think it is environmentally right for the shellfish and other animals, such as seal pups on the beach, to be torn to shreds by dogs running loose?

What in God’s name is wrong with your paper?

Number one rule of journalism – do your background research first. Or didn’t they teach anyone at your office journalism? I have never seen such a disregard for the law or for the local citizens of a neighborhood in my life. Would you like it if I printed a picture of my dogs playing frisbee and running around loose in your neighborhood? Where do you live? Can I take my dogs to Poulsbo, Kingston, Bainbridge Island, Indianola, Suquamish, Eglon, Silverdale, Chico and Bremerton parks and let them run without leashes?

No, I can’t because it is against the law, just as it is against the same law at this park.
