Players need help

My name is Julee Marcelino and I am the committee chairperson for fundraising activities for the North Kitsap Pee Wee Association. We are looking to garner community support for our organization this year. Since we are a 501c3 nonprofit organization, most of the money for the club operations has to come from registration fees, sales at the concession stand and community donations. The donations area has proven difficult in the past and this year, more than ever, we need your help.

The NK Pee Wee Association supports over 300 children in our community during football season alone. We have a cheer squad and a basketball club to support as well, all of which have grown substantially in size over the past two years. This year we will have to spend an additional $15,000 to $20,000 on equipment and much needed repairs. With the bulk of our money coming from registration fees, this makes keeping the organization afloat throughout each season a bit of a struggle. Unlike other Pee Wee organizations, we do not turn players away.

We feel that everyone deserves a chance to learn valuable life skills and to act as a contributing member of a team. Anyone who has played team sports as a child will remember the impact that the Pee Wee experience had on them. We understand the importance of commitment and camaraderie in a child’s life, which is why we have sought out help from our community.

We are looking for materials to build a minimum of two complete bleachers, which we must replace due to safety reasons with the existing sets. This year money is exceptionally tight due to the expansion of teams and increased numbers. We simply would not be able to purchase the materials necessary to provide seating for our home or visitor sides at Hamilton Field. Donations of items to keep our organization running are appreciated. Your contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a big difference in the lives of many.

Malachi DeWalt family

Family recuperating from tragic loss

On July 15, we lost our son, Malachi DeWalt, to a tragic accident. It was the most devastating day of our lives and will continue to keep hold of us for the remainder of our lives. When we were at our lowest, family, friends, complete strangers and local businesses came to our aid. So with this letter, we would like to thank the following families: Thomas, Dozier, Jones, Johnson, Stockton, Square, Lawrence, Wett, Gaines and extended DeWalt family members.

We would also like to extend our thanks and gratitude to pastors Rachal, Litton and Coleman.

Thanks for all the love and support from all the families in Renton, Bremerton, Port Orchard, Bainbridge Island, Belfair, Poulsbo, Silverdale and Seattle.

Also, we would like to thank friends and family on Staten Island, NY, Plano and Missouri City, Texas, and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

We would also like to thank the following businesses for their kindness: Kinkos of Silverdale, Fred Meyer of Bremerton, Puget Sound Energy, Peninsula Psychological Center; the following Port Orchard businesses: Albertsons on Sidney, Rent-A-Center, Flowers to Go, Port Orchard Signs, South Kitsap Helpline and Security Financial.

We would like to thank Sinclair Missionary Baptist Church, Emmanuel Apostolic Church, Rill’s Life Tribute Center, Burley Glenwood and View Ridge Elementary schools, Waste Management/Brem-Air Disposal, Warren Avenue Peewee Association, the City of Seattle, JC Penney, all the semi-pro teams in the NAFL and NWFL and the organizer of the car wash held in Port Orchard.

All the love, support, food and donations have been greatly appreciated. We have been so blessed with the help we have received and it has been such a big help to have the community rally together and help our family.

Fishline

Their supply cup runneth over

What an incredible group of people live in North Kitsap. What a community! Your response to the article about Fishline’s School Supplies Program has been overwhelming. We have not only met our goal, but doubled it.

If there are any funds left over that have been designated for school supplies, we will work with the schools to make sure that the children who cannot afford additional supplies will continue to receive help.

Should you still want to make a donation, it would help us if you mark “general” on your check. This way we can use it where it is needed the most, whether it is for client services, food, or even repairing a refrigerator if it breaks down.

North Kitsap, when there is a need you always come through. This is what makes me believe that together, even in these very tough times, we will be able to continue to serve those in-need in our community. Words cannot express the thankfulness I feel because of this caring community.

All I can say is thank you and hope that you understand the true feelings behind these words.
