Parking rules not enforced on Mesford

I am all for kids participating in sports. It is a wonderful thing to watch and encourage them in this. What I’m trying to bring to the attention of our public officials is a parking problem we are having on Mesford Road.

I live in Viking Park and we have two entrances/exits to our park, both on Mesford Road. I believe there are more than 90 units in the park at this time.

In May 7, there was a track and field event at North Kitsap High School. I went out at 1:15 p.m. and at that time there were seven full-size buses parked on the field side of the street, which is probably the reason there were 27 vehicles parking on the opposite side of the road. This made for a tight squeeze for those of us trying to get out and run our errands — not just an inconvenience, but a dangerous situation. I am concerned, as I know that we are once again having the Viking Cup this year and will have the same issue again.

When the city redid Mesford Road and created the wonderful parking spots on the field side, I thought that there would no parking on our side of the street. The signs do say “No Parking Anytime,” but this has not been enforced.

We deal with this issue for soccer, baseball, etc., and since the cars have been allowed to park without warning, they continue to do so.

Thanks for a place to vent!
