Poulsbo car wash owner is a local hero

We have a local hero and I'd like to tell our community about him.

We have a local hero and I’d like to tell our community about him.

On Dec. 25, my purse was stolen, a very inconvenient time for me. I was to leave at noon the next day for my Christmas visit to Minnesota where my daughter lives. In the purse were my driver’s license, VISA cards, and other important documents. After the thorough search, I was able to take care of getting a temporary license and making the necessary calls, and met the shuttle on time.

Ten days later, I received a call from the owner of Mike’s Car Wash and Detail on 7th Avenue in Poulsbo. He had found my purse in his Dumpster and, finding my address, being unable to reach me by phone, he and his wife drove the 10 miles to my home, talked to a neighbor and gave her the purse. He then learned the phone number of my daughter, called me to reassure me that while the money was gone, all of my important cards were in the purse, and it was safe with my friend.

I told him I had gone to his car wash many times, but would be there more often now, and he said the next few washes would be on him as a way to welcome me home.

What a guy. It gives me renewed hope for our community and our country, knowing that we still have such honest and considerate people in our midst. Please take your car to Mike’s Car Wash. We want to keep this man in Poulsbo.
