I read with disappointment Marylin Olds’ article on Ginsburg and Trump in the August edition of the Kingston Community News.
After praising Supreme Court Justice Ginzburg for violating the judicial code of conduct, she blasts Trump and asks, “What happened to mainstream Republicans?”
While I don’t pretend to speak for all Republicans, I can tell you that we’re tired of the media telling us with a straight face that violating judicial ethics is perfectly acceptable — even applaudable — in those we think “progressive,” but are heinous in those who aren’t.
We’re tired of the media telling us what’s offensive and what’s not, as if we require the teaching to know the difference.
We’re tired of spin so far from the truth that no one can tell the difference between truth and lies.
We’re tired of being told that rights that are clearly articulated in the Constitution need to be restricted or eliminated — i.e. gun bans — but “rights” never imagined anywhere are now the law and anyone questioning a 60-year-old man entering the women’s restroom where my 50-year-old daughter is will be cited or jailed, i.e. bathroom laws.
We’re tired of people chanting “choice” without first answering the fundamental question, “Are we removing tissue or are we killing a human being?” If it’s tissue, it’s no one’s business. If it’s a human being, it’s everyone’s.
Ms. Olds calls it back-pedaling. Perhaps it is, but I would submit that when you’re on the wrong path, the most progressive person is the one who goes back and gets on the right one.
