As a member of Americans for Prosperity here in Washington, I understand that there’s nothing more critical for our state than holding the line and balancing the state budget without tax or fee increases.

Yesterday, I contacted State Rep. Sherry Appleton to let her know, as her constituent, I expect her to vote against tax and fee increases. Her response — which indicated she wasn’t interested in her constituent’s view on issues because she knew what was “right” without any help from us — is one of the most arrogant things I’ve ever read. When I wrote that I expected her to hold the line on tax and fee increases, she wrote back that my stance is, “I have mine, let the rest fall by the wayside.” That shocked me. When I wrote that I would be monitoring the legislative session and would be back in touch with her as the session progresses, this was her response: “You do not have to re-contact me, as I will be doing the right thing for all my constituents.”

Many Washingtonians feel they can no longer trust their government. Appleton is a perfect example of why.
