I am a native of Port Orchard since 1954. Now I also have the privilege and responsibility of being a store owner. I enjoy reading the Port Orchard Independent newspaper. Every Friday a copy is dropped at my business. I have also advertised in the Port Orchard Independent.

My concern is the explicit details reported regarding sexual offenses.  These crimes are appropriately detailed for prosecution and legal proceedings and jury decisions. The newspaper is not the appropriate or appointed venue for these hearings and legal decisions.

I find that the victims of such crimes are unnecessarily being paraded before the town they live in and for the public (of all ages) to learn of in detail.

The Port Orchard Independent, I thought, was a local community source of news and information that was written in such a way that all family members of every age could read and learn from. This journalism is less than professional and less than something I could be proud of in this town.

More than once, I have read this type of reporting in this newspaper.  It is questionable and as I have discussed with other residents regarding this type of reporting, they find it distasteful and also unnecessary.

Please reconsider both the reason, as well as the repercussions of such explicitness.
