On your ballot for North Kitsap School District director, District 2, write “Bruce Christen” on the blank line and select his box.
As Election Day gets closer, I’ve looked for information about Jim Almond, the unopposed candidate for NKSD director, District 2. I did not find any.
The statement in the Kitsap County’s Voters Pamphlet was blank; he did not submit one. Most other unopposed candidates had statements.
He did not participate in the League of Women Voters candidates’ forum on Oct. 5. Three unopposed Poulsbo City Council candidates did.
It is not fair to North Kitsap voters to ask them to cast a vote when no information is available. Our schools are too important to vote without knowing what the candidate believes in or what they will do.
Because of this uncertainty, Bruce Christen submitted a declaration of write-in candidacy to the Kitsap County auditor. Write-in votes can now be counted.
We now have another choice this election. Write in “Bruce Christen” on your ballot and select him to continue his service as North Kitsap School District director, District 2.
My choice is not only about the lack of understanding about Jim Almond, because understanding is temporary and will come with time. My choice is also about my experience with Bruce Christen. He has a truly unique and important perspective that is crucial to our district. Since Bruce Christen was appointed to the board in November, he has provided an unrelenting focus on the vision of future education. In the future, public education will unlock the potential of every child. All of our young people will find their value place in society. Our community will thrive.
Bruce Christen is an advocate for the students that don’t have advocates. He is an advocate of freedom for teachers, when society is currently focused on accountability. North Kitsap needs Bruce Christen’s unrelenting focus on future education for our students, our teachers, and our community.
If you share the vision of unlocking the full potential of every child, Bruce Christen is the right choice. Write in “Bruce Christen” on your ballot and select him to continue his service as North Kitsap School District director, District 2.
