Vote for Jerry Kirschner for port commissioner in Kingston. This candidate represents an opportunity for positive changes in our economic future.
I am a property owner in the old-town core. I have been “hanging in there” for 14 years with my own business and offering rental spaces for retail entrepreneurs. I have watched the excitement of start-up and the despair of closing small businesses many times in my own building, as well as other spaces in town. The reason for closing is always the same: not enough customers, not enough revenue to continue here.
I have made a conscious choice to continue to rent to retail businesses. I believe it is my responsibility to provide diversity in the core of our charming town. But we need more than dedication.
The Port of Kingston is the largest source of political and financial clout our unincorporated town has. We have a beautiful park and marina — it is a huge asset — but it has always seemed isolated from my situation.
In all the years I have lived here, I didn’t know there was an obligation in the charter of the port to assist with economic development in the town! This campaign has given me a glimpse into the power base that should be doing more to serve our community.
I believe Jerry Kirschner has the intelligence, professional experience, and team-building skills to complement the maritime and political views already represented on the commission. Without drama or pontificating, this tireless man has an ability to gather information — including concerns and dreams of the public — assess it, and develop a logical plan of action.
In cooperation with the other commissioners, he has the competence and drive to help put that plan into action in a timely manner. You may not know him, so please go to www.Kirschner4Kingston.com to learn more. He is the right candidate for this time and place to direct the future of Kingston — our future.
