Glad to see some local citizens volunteering to run for school board.Anyone who runs for a volunteer  office deserves respect and an opportunity to be heard. Education is suffering from Wall Street blunders that have hurt our ability under existing funding formulas to support education.

I often say in a tongue-in-cheek comment that we should fund the classroom first and allow the leftover dollars support administrational needs plus the federal and state mandates. Seems our funding formula looks more and more like trickle down education when it should be the other way around. School boards have an enormous responsibility and they have to deal with a funding formula that shows its holes in bad economic times.

Don’t we have a responsibility to ourselves and this younger generation to give an education with safe and  better learning environments than we had. I’m looking forward to how we can help. Kids are not or ever were our future, they always have been our present.
