The Port Orchard Eagles teamed up with the Fathoms o’ Fun royalty on Aug. 16-17 to raise money and collect non-perishable food items for South Kitsap Helpline’s food bank.
According to Eagles coordinators Dave Hall and Ken Bicha, the community support was “overwhelming and extremely heart warming.” In addition to surprising monetary donations, shoppers at both Albertson’s stores and Fred Meyer, provided more than 867 pounds of food. The need is great and this helps fill the shelves.
The Eagles, Fathoms and SK Helpline extend a huge “thank you” for your donations and to remind everyone that regular donation are needed and are very much appreciated.
This August weekend project will become an annual event for the Eagles as we are “people helping people.” All of our volunteers enjoyed an extremely positive “warm fuzz” experience as our Port Orchard residents stepped up and paid it forwards.
My example of the uplifting spirit of giving was a homeless man who gave a can of food (probably 15 percent of his purchase). How great is that?
Bless you all who helped SK Helpline and those who will help in future weeks and months.
