Bill Austin asked if I would “help” get the pavilion painted before the “Building Community” event on May 2 and so I got started in mid-April. Clearly it was a big job, and my brother Lonnie and friend Eldon helped.
I was so pleased one day when Daron Jagodzinski, pastor of the Alive Covenant Church (they meet twice a month at the Sons of Norway) had spotted the activity and came down to ask if their volunteers could help out for two hours on the following Sunday, the 25th of April. Little did I know that a swarm of probably 10-12 adults and their entire families would arrive that morning, ready to work.
Not only did they accomplish more in that two hours that I thought was humanly possible, but their children picked up trash that had gotten into narrow spaces, and did a thorough job of getting the Shop-Vac down into the crevasses of the pavilion floor — something I am sure has never been done.
There is no doubt that without their help, we never would have completed the job. What a great group of people!
