Too much concern about traffic

What will it take to make my neighbors in Hansville happy? No more cars on the road? The very day the speed tables were installed in Cliffside, my drive home from work was hampered by people literally strolling in the road!

What will it take to make my neighbors in Hansville happy? No more cars on the road?  The very day the speed tables were installed in Cliffside, my drive home from work was hampered by people literally strolling in the road! Not on the shoulder, but in the road. I couldn’t pass them because there was a car approaching from the other direction.

So I waited until it was safe (for me and other drivers) to pass, and continued home.  One of the arguments for installing those monstrosities was that several children like to play in the street in Cliffside and Bridgeview.  Wow! When I was a child (apparently in the Dark Ages), we learned not to play in the street through instruction from our parents and observing roadkill.  Cars squish things really flat when they don’t get out of the way.

That was enough for us. Obviously, we were stifled, and our rights were trampled on.

Imagine my surprise the other evening when we were driving home, to see another of those lighted speed-limit signs that tell drivers their exact speed. The posted speed limit where we were driving is 35 mph, and the sign alerted us that our speed was 34 mph. What shocked us both was that the sign was furiously flashing the words “SLOW DOWN.” Really?

Would someone care to define speed limit for me?  I’ve been driving for 33 years, and when I took my driving test, the speed limit was the maximum speed at which a car was allowed to travel. And in my math classes back then, 34 was less than 35.

Have I missed something along the way, or are people just losing their grip on reality? Get a hobby, Hansville!
