We need Olds’ voice of reason and sense of outrage

I’d like to give a shout of support for columnist Marylin Olds. I count on her voice of reason and sense of outrage — just what these times desperately need.

Her recent article, “Return of the Gilded Age of Robber Barons” (Dec. 22 Kitsap Daily News), was especially good. She points out the similarities between our current situation and the collusion of the J.P. Morgans and the Congress to consolidate more money for the ultra-wealthy. It’s just that now it is much worse, especially in light of the new tax bill. Marylin states that 400 Americans own the combined wealth of 64 percent of American households!

Lately, many of us are asking: What kind of country do we want to be? It is a defining moment. Do we want to be humane and smart enough to provide universal health care and education and work toward a cleaner and more just world for everybody? I believe we had better find our common ground and work together to turn things around.

I applaud Marylin Olds for her call to “Resist. Organize. Talk with friends and family. Arm yourself with information. Your children will thank you, if you succeed. This is not acceptable to us, but this is absolutely unfair to our children.”

I would add to that: Protest! Come to the Women’s March in Seattle at 10 a.m. Jan. 20.
