We remain committed to our Central Kitsap community

Recently, the Central Kitsap Food Bank became a victim of vandalism and theft when someone cut the fuel line and stole gas from one of our trucks.

Without the use of our truck, it hindered our ability to pick up daily donations from our generous local businesses, as well as deliver food to several senior centers. This also directly impacted the quantity and quality of the food available at the Food Bank for our clients selecting food for themselves and their families. Additionally, it was an unexpected expense to repair the fuel line and replace the stolen gas using funds that could have been better utilized for our clients

As we were working on improved security and surveillance, our second truck fell victim in the same manner. It is disheartening that someone would target a nonprofit organization whose mission is to help the underserved and struggling in our community. We would ask anyone who has any information on these crimes to contact the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office immediately.

As we plan for the fall and winter including the holidays, we thank you — our many volunteers and individual and business donors — for your continued and amazing support. If you have not visited us at our new facility on Anderson Hill Road, we invite you to stop by and take a tour.

How can you help? Volunteer on a weekly basis or help with our holiday distributions on Nov. 17 and 18, and/or Dec. 15 and 16. Donations of food and money are always gratefully accepted from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Our next major fundraiser is a dinner and auction that will take place May 5, 2018.

For more information on any of these opportunities, please check out our Facebook page or website. Email info@ckfoodbank.org or call 360-692-9818.

While we are disappointed and frustrated by the recent crimes, we remain committed to our Central Kitsap community and specifically to the Central Kitsap Food Bank and providing food for the hungry.

With gratitude,

Central Kitsap Food Bank Board of Directors
