Incumbent Kitsap County Commissioner Linda Streissguth and her opponent Ed Wolfe both seem so appealing it’s hard for voters to sort substance from charm. What sets Streissguth apart is her remarkable breadth and depth of hard-earned experience in solving the same kinds of land-use and strategic planning issues that face her now as commissioner. It’s rare for a new commissioner to come to the job so thoroughly prepared.
Linda’s leadership style has earned the respect of even the toughest critics among those she has worked with on city and county advisory groups and commissions. They learned that she is smart, passionate about community service and works tirelessly at finding ways to bring people together.
Her opposition and his supporters harp on the need for “balance:” but the word “balance” really sums up Streissguth’s approach to problems. She has an impressive history of working across partisan lines to find solutions that are fair to all stakeholders. She is known for working effectively with community groups and agencies across the political spectrum.
Much of the partisan posturing about “balance” comes from groups that are among the loudest and most divisive voices in Kitsap County. Wolfe’s campaign is heavily funded by the groups and interests that have fought hardest to block responsible shoreline management, sensible critical areas ordinances and common sense environmental protections.
When it comes to seasoned performance, balanced perspective and proven capabilities, Streissguth is clearly the best choice to help map a healthy and sustainable future for Kitsap County.
