I received a flier asking me to vote for the Kitsap Regional Library levy lift.
The supporting reasons were fluff (increased educational opportunities, more programs, nicer places to sit and read, and some additional open hours for some branches).
The normal “pay the price” reasons for not supporting the measure included fewer books, one day less of service, closure of two (unnamed) libraries and termination of bookmobile service.
The flier does not indicate the current budget, the anticipated revenues to be gained under the levy lift or exactly how those funds will be spent.
I am not impressed with either the apparent lack of planning by KRL or the lack of willingness to share fiscal facts with the voting public. Until such time as the KRL administrators can properly advise of the specific fiscal requirements of the system, my vote will be no.
