BAINBRIDGE ISLAND —  Last year it was a night in the capital and largest city of Argentina, this year it’s an evening on the cultured little Caribbean island south of Florida.

Figuratively speaking, of course.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday night, the folks at Bainbridge Performing Arts are hosting a date night, sponsored by Bainbridge Travel, featuring live music from a local Latin big band and salsa dance lessons on the evening.

It’s billed as “A Night in Cuba,” offering a evening of leaving the country without even leaving the island, a follow up to last year’s “Night in Buenos Aires.”

Tickets are $30, which, considering the costs and risk of actually spending a night in Cuba, seems reasonable.

Turning its stage into a dance floor, BPA should have all the essentials: Trombanga — an in-demand, nine-piece Kitsap Latin Jazz band featuring four trombones and a five-piece rhythm section — will be providing the Salsa, Merengue and Cha-Cha, while Sheila Phillips of the island’s Educated Feet Dance Company, will be giving Salsa lessons.

And in the lobby:  sangria.
