Admiral Theatre opens the gateway to ancient Scotland

“Brigadoon” starring Gene Kelly and Van Johnson is the next installment of The Admiral’s Classic Film Series March 21.

If you’re in the mood for a strange story, “Brigadoon” is a quirky as they come.

The 1954 film, based on a 1947 musical which was based on a much older German story about a mythical village that fell under a magic spell, will be on the Admiral Theatre’s big screen as the next installment of its classic movie series at 7 p.m. March 21. Tickets are $7.

The movie follows two Americans — Tommy Albright (Gene Kelly) and Jeff Douglas (Van Johnson) — on a hunting trip in Scotland when they encounter a small, mysterious, unmapped village named Brigadoon where everyone seems to function like they are living 200 years in the past.

Albright and Douglas present some serious implications when they stumble upon the enchanted village and one falls in love with a local lass — as in turning into dust and disappearing from the face of the earth.
