Over the past three decades, the Sidney Art Gallery in Port Orchard has seen the near gamut of Kitsap’s Creativity.

Each year around this time, the gallery opens its walls to local amateurs for the annual Helen Norris Show. All comers are welcomed with a registration fee of $5 a piece for a maximum of two works that are suitably framed, available for sale and have been created within the past two years.

Categories range from oils to watercolors to drawing and mixed media. It usually makes for a quite the mixed bag of an art show, but the talent of local artists is what is ultimately on display.

The 38th annual Helen Norris Open Art Show Show is up now and will hang throughout the month at the Sidney, 202 Sidney Ave. in Port Orchard.

Entries came from artists living around the Sound and mostly from Kitsap and upper Pierce counties, Sidney Gallery Manager Deb Danielson said.

Just shy of 100 entries in all, the show was judged by the husband and wife duo of Peter and Karen DuPre’ — Peter, a professional photographer, and Karen, a fine artist.

Danielson said she met the duo at last year’s Helen Norris show and thought they’d be a good combination for the show, given their expertise.

The DuPre’s judged the show before the day of its opening — May 4 — and awarded first, second, third place prizes and honorable mention designations.

First prize winners receive $50 and an invitation for their a show of their own at the Sidney. WU
