Dorothy Brinz’s second car show another man-friendly benefit for breast cancer research.

When Dorothy Brinz combined her passion for old cars with her fervor for helping find a cure for breast cancer, she came to a simple realization.

“Let’s face it: guys like breasts,” Brinz said. “(A car show) is one way that guys can be more involved and help out with breast cancer, and they’ve been more than happy to do it.”

The 55-year-old Fox Island resident and lifelong auto enthusiast will host her benefit car show this weekend in Port Gamble — bringing hundreds of automobiles to the historic North Kitsap town, following last year’s absence of the Early Irons’ annual event.

Brinz’ simply-dubbed “Port Gamble Car Show” is open to all makes, models and years of cars, trucks and motorcycles — $15 entry fee, two for $20 — from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Aug. 29 on the sweeping lawns Port Gamble. Members of the Puget Sound Early Birds and Port Orchard’s Saints Car Club are expected to attend — and according to the show’s website, bicycles, tractors and campers are welcome too.

All vehicles will be a part of the judging.

“The earliest car we have is a 1928, at this point, and our newest cars are 2010,” Brinz said, noting that a Model T, a new Camaro and a new Mustang already registered at the bookends of the show. “And we’ll have everything in between.”

The event is a fundraiser for breast cancer research and awareness, through the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day walk — which Brinz will be participating in later this September. The event annually collects millions of dollars throughout the country.

Earlier this year, Brinz’ put on her first-ever car show — another fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen walk — the wildly successful Uptown Car Show in Gig Harbor, which drew some 500 cars and reportedly 5,000 spectators.

The show was so big, Brinz said, that some 100 cars couldn’t even make it in due to limited parking space. But that shouldn’t be a problem in Port Gamble, which volunteered its ample lot — enough to accommodate 500 cars and thousands of spectators.

“We can hold every vehicle that we can get,” Brinz said.

While spectators’ admission is free, the majority of proceeds from vehicle entries will go to the cause in addition to 100 percent of proceeds from a $10-per-person wine-tasting walk around Port Gamble also slated for the day. Plus donations will be accepted.

“Then at the end of the show we’re taking a one-hour cruise,” Brinz said, “so people can make a little bit of noise, have a little bit of fun, and come back up and say goodnight.”

The Port Gamble Car Show will feature classic vehicles spanning nearly a century of makes and models with live music, food from Mike’s Four Star BBQ and the Port Orchard Lions Breakfast Club, activities for the kids and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 29 in Port Gamble.
