Bainbridge in Bloom and a lil’ Little and Lewis this weekend

Five gardens sharing a common locale and focus on water make up this year’s Bainbridge In Bloom garden tour.

Located along a tree-lined two-mile loop in the Agate Pass neighborhood, it’s designed as a walking tour, though cycling is encouraged, and a shuttle will provide limited service between the gardens both days. Find more info online at www.gardentour.org.

Attention will turn indoors for a few hours Saturday as islanders George Little and David Lewis, world-renowned beacons of the Pacific Northwest gardening community, will be giving an informal talk at 1 p.m. on ‘Transitions’ — a new exhibit of their signature color-washed concrete art — at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts.

The duo has been creating and commissioning sculpture and paintings for homes and gardens across the country, and the world, for decades. They’ve garnered international acclaim both for their art and for their famous and flamboyant Garden Gallery which flourished on Bainbridge for years.

Last summer, Little and Lewis closed the garden, selling the property and moving into a new house they call a “clean canvas.” They also bought a pair of vacation homes in a small colonial town in Central Mexico.

Indeed much has changed since Little and Lewis’ last exhibit at BAC four years ago.

See and hear them tell how “transitions in life lead to transitions in art,” Saturday, and read more on the duo as well as Bainbridge in Bloom in this week’s Bainbridge Island Review.
