Playing at the Dragonfly Cinema screen this weekend is “Breathe,” the true story of a couple whose love triumphed over disease and disability.

Based on the lives of Robin and Diana Cavendish, “Breathe” begins with their blissful courtship cut short when Robin is stricken with polio and given weeks to live. They persevere, determined not to let the disease derail their lives. They also work together to develop devices that provide independence to others with disabilities.

This truly heart-warming tale is the first film directed by Andy Serkis, who came to fame through his award-winning performance as Gollum in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. He has surrounded himself with the best craftspeople in the filmmaking business, including three-time Oscar-winning director of photography Robert Richardson, who makes this film simply gorgeous.

Especially noteworthy are the performances by lead actors Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) and Claire Foy, who radiate on-screen and share an undeniable chemistry.

This throwback to classic Hollywood filmmaking should not be missed. Visit dragonflycinema.com for show times through Tuesday, Nov. 28.
