The Port Orchard Chamber of Commerce expects to receive 1,000 DVD copies of a 12-minute video this week, which is intended to stimulate tourism and bring visitors to the town.

“We are using this to market Port Orchard as a destination and show what the town has to offer, said Chamber of Commerce President Coreen Haydock Johnson.

The 12-minute video includes a series of scenic shots that segues into a short history of the town and the region that includes archival pictures and vintage film footage.

The film also traces the many ways to get to Port Orchard–road, bridge, ferry, private boat or sea plane. So in addition to the town the video is promoting the different access paths.

“We want to impress people not only with what the town has to offer but with the journey it takes to get here,” Johnson said.

Once arrived, visitors are encouraged to take advantage of water, nature and outdoor recreation.

The video also provides a brief look at local people, restaurants, events, parades and festivals.

Johnson said the video cost about $3,000 and was filmed last year. DVD duplication fees are estimated at about $1 each, with payment for both coming from lodging tax revenues.

Johnson said she will distribute copies of the DVD to chamber members, and will include it in tourism packages mailed out to potential visitors who request a tourism packet.

A shorter version is viewable on YouTube through links on the Port Orchard Chamber and city Web sites.

The disks will hopefully be available at the monthly chamber meeting, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 11 at Le Garmache Catering in Port Orchard. This month’s presentation will be “Networking that Means Business: Schmoozing with the Big Dogs” featuring author Stephanie Horton.

Through her presentations and books she teaches courtesy and kindness and how business persons, or anyone, can present themselves to their best advantage.

General Membership Meetings are open to members and non-members, luncheon reservations are required. Chamber members are $15 if pre-paid, $17 if paid at the door.
