The Collective Visions Gallery is seeking entries to the 2011 CVG Show, a statewide, juried art competition for Washington artists.

This will be the Bremerton gallery’s fourth year hosting the major competitive art exhibition that attracts Washington’s top artists and offers more than $5,000 in cash awards.

All 2,400 square feet of exhibition space in the gallery will be devoted to this event for the month of February 2011.

Dennis Peacock, the featured juror, is a professional metal sculptor who lives in Shelton, where he maintains his studio. He has completed numerous large-scale sculpture commissions including an untitled stainless relief for the Physics building at Goshen College in Goshen, Ind.., “Other Voices,” a three part site-specific installation for Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, NC., and has a site specific sculpture plus four outdoor pieces in the Monarch Sculpture Park in Tenino.

He taught on both the undergraduate and graduate levels at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, for 31 years where he was director and curator of the acclaimed University of Tennessee National Sculpture Tour.

Peacock has a holds a bachelor’s degree in art from Western Washington University and both a master’s degree and a master’s in fine arts from the University of Iowa.

“The gallery is especially pleased that despite these challenging economic times, there is strong support for the arts in our community, including for this event,” said exhibition coordinator Alan Newberg.

The 2010 CVG Show drew more than 1,500 attendees and 128 art works. The works were selected from nearly 800 pieces entered into the competition by artists from 68 cities across the state.

“We are confident the fourth annual CVG Show will match or beat the high quality of the previous shows,” Newberg said. “This event attracts art lovers, buyers, educators and artists from the city, county and the wider Puget Sound region and beyond. In this way we are creating community through the arts and helping to rejuvenate the local economy.”

The deadline for submissions is Nov. 18.
