Some of the most beloved artworks on public display in Bainbridge Island have sprung from spontaneous inspiration of community members, they say.

In the spirit of that tradition, the Public Art Committee of the Bainbridge Island Arts and Humanities Council has created another public opportunity — a project which they are calling Creative Grounds.

Centered around communities building neighborhood projects, the BIAHC committee will fund up to $8,000 this summer for an art project conceived and build by a community group or neighborhood. For now, they are asking for submissions.

An informal workshop for potential applicants will be at 7:30 p.m. May 1 at the Island Center Hall, 8395 Fletcher Bay Road on Bainbridge. The application deadline is June 2 at 5 p.m.

Neighborhood groups who want to collaborate on a project within their domain or community groups with a publicly visible and accessible space for the project are welcome to apply. No religious, governmental or political groups.
