‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ comes to Bremerton
The course of true love never did run smooth, and rarely so does the theatre. But the Seattle Shakespeare Company seamlessly presents “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” at 7 p.m. Friday, March 5 at the Admiral Theatre in Bremerton. Using seven actors and puppets, this production of Shakespeare’s most popular comedy muddles love and magic into a 90-minute tale.
In it, two pairs of mixed up lovers make their way through the forest while an unlikely suitor captures the fairy queen’s heart.
The Seattle Shakespeare Company’s productions are cut and adapted to maintain the beauty of Shakespeare’s language and reveal the dynamic story lines in fresh and accessible ways.

Planetarium Show and Star Party: ‘Andromeda: When Galaxies Collide’
What happens when galaxies collide? The Battle Point Astronomical Association will show “Andromeda: When Galaxies Collide” at the Ritchie Observatory at 7 p.m. March 6. The association says the most distant object and the oldest light we can see with the naked eye, the Andromeda galaxy, was first recorded in 905 CE, but it wasn’t until 1925 that we understood that this “little cloud” was a separate galaxy. (Now we know it’s heading right for us at 250,000 mph.) Learn how to find it, what’s in it, and what will happen when it arrives. Astronomers will take questions throughout the presentation. The show will include an image-enhanced planetarium presentation about the current night’s sky, and if the sky is clear, astronomers will be on hand with telescopes. The show is free. Living Book event: Check out a new point of view
The Bainbridge Island Library will hold a free Living Book event from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, March 6. At a Living Book Event, visitors are “Readers,” conversation partners are “Books,” and program staff are “Librarians.” Librarians help Readers choose a volunteer Book for a loan period of one-half hour. During that time, there is an opportunity for quiet one-on-one conversation, questions, stories, and, hopefully, a sense of common ground. At this event, Books include an African American father’s perspective on island living, a female cop in today’s world, going from gang member to gang prevention and an ordinary German in Nazi Germany, among others. Typically, Books are volunteers who represent groups or individuals who are the target of stereotyping or misunderstanding. Kitsap Bridal and Newlywed Show
The Kitsap Bridal and Newlywed Show runs March 6-7 at the NW Design Center, 18850 State Hwy 305 in Poulsbo. The show will offer a one-stop shopping opportunity for future brides and the newly married, while also providing a wide range of businesses from all over Kitsap an opportunity to network and get to know one another’s goods and services available through booth exhibition, demonstrations, informational presentations, Web site publicity and promotional materials at the event. There will be hourly raffles, door prizes, a silent auction and a chance to win several exciting giveaways for attendees.
Admission includes a “shopping swag bag” filled with “show freebies.” A $10 cash donation or five items of food will be collected in return for free general admission; 100 percent of door proceeds benefit local community services Helpline and North Kitsap Fishline.
The show is proud to support The Making Memories Foundation, granting wishes and memory-making events for metastatic breast cancer patients, while continuing to support, educate and increase resource awareness.

‘Green Fiends and other Kitsap Characters: an exhibit of narrative portraits’
Bremerton’s Collective Visions Gallery is running a new exhibit through March from Alan Newberg, one of the gallery’s founding members. The paintings are a series of portraits of friends of the artist who are “doing interesting things and taking innovative approaches to life.” The artist terms these paintings “Story Portraits” because they go beyond the convention of likeness associated with portraiture by creating visual narratives. There will be an opening reception during First Friday Art Walk this weekend, from 5-8 p.m. March 5. Subjects of the paintings will tell their stories from 7-9 p.m. March 12.
