Foods to boost your libido, even post Valentines

Lovin in the Oven by Aaron Managhan

With Valentine’s Day passed, it’s never too early to start planning your next special day with that special someone. Whether you’re gearing up for a night on the town, a quiet getaway or even just an intimate night at home, what you eat can make a significant impact on your romance.

Consider these sensual and savory sustenance options to help fulfill your appetite.

If you plan on starting early, breakfast in bed is a classic way to say, and show, your sentiments.

Strawberry Crepe Rolls

Strawberries, as well as raspberries, pineapple and oranges, are all good sources of vitamin C, which is thought to help stave off impotency.

In a mixing bowl, combine 1-1/4 cups milk, two eggs and a teaspoon of vanilla. In addition to the fruit, eggs and vanilla both have libido-boosting characteristics as well.

Vanilla itself has folklore roots to its abilities, while eggs are a source of vitamins B5 and B6, both of which help reduce stress and balance hormone levels, which are vital to a healthy libido.

Next, combine a cup of flour with a teaspoon sugar and 1/4-teaspoon salt. Add the milk mixture and mix it all well, finally covering it and letting it sit in the fridge for an hour.

Next, butter up your skillet over medium heat. For each crepe, pour about two heaping tablespoons of batter into the center, tilting the pan to even out it out across the bottom. Cook until the top appears dry, flip it and cook for another 15-20 seconds.

Next, fluff up some mascarpone cheese with a little sugar and spread about two tablespoons over the crepe. Use the same amount of spreadable strawberry fruit inside. Next add three tablespoons of chopped strawberry and roll it all up, sprinkling the top with powdered sugar.

Beyond breakfast, you’ll want a snack to feed your hunger.

Baked Brie with Caramelized Pears, Shallots and Thyme

Cheese is a great source of zinc. Zinc is vital to testosterone production, and testosterone levels control both male and female sex drives.

So try this cheesy brie selection as a nice appetizer before the real meal.

Melt a tablespoon of butter in a skillet at medium heat. Toss in two thinly sliced shallots, cooking them while stirring for about a minute. Next, add two thinly sliced pears, cooking them for about five minutes. Add a 1/3 cup of dry white wine, a half-teaspoon brown sugar, a teaspoon of fresh chopped thyme and finally, salt and pepper to taste. Crank up the heat to medium-high and simmer until the liquid has evaporated. This will take about 10 minutes.

Next, cut a hole in the top of a sourdough bread bowl wide enough for a brie round, leaving about a half-inch to the bottom. Cut the bread itself into usable serving portions.

Score the brie around the edges, dragging floss or thin string through the score marks to half the cheese. Place the bottom half cut-side-up into the sourdough loaf, topping it with half the pear mixture. Next, sprinkle on about 1/4-cup slivered almonds. Stack the remaining brie on top and repeat.

Almonds, and nuts in general, are a great source of fatty acids, which are vital for men in the healthy production of hormones.

Put this all on a baking sheet and let it go for about 45 minutes at 350 degrees until the cheese becomes soft and gooey. Serve with bread and crackers and enjoy.

Now that you’ve worked up an appetite, let the main course blow your significant other away.

Stuffed Leg of Lamb with Basalmic-Fig-

Basil Sauce

With lamb also containing zinc, not to mention being a special-meal favorite to begin with, you can woo your lover with this tasty treat.

Combine a half-cup of coarsely chopped prunes and 1/4-cup of currants with two tablespoons of creme de cassis liqueur in a small bowl. Set this aside.

In another small bowl, combine 1-1/2 tables spoons of fresh thyme and rosemary, a half-teaspoon of ground corriander, 1-1/4 teaspoons salt and a teaspoon of black pepper. Set this aside as well.

Next, untie and unroll your lamb (a 4-pound boneless leg of lamb is best), trimming off excess fat while evening out thickness. Sprinkle half the herb mixture over the lamb. Next, mix a half-cup almonds and two tablespoons of chopped fresh mint into the prune mixture, spreading it evenly over the lamb.

Roll the lamb back up and retie it in 1-inch intervals. Cut nine slits about an inch deep into the top of the lamb and insert a slice of garlic in each. Rub it down with about two tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle on the rest of your herb mix.

Place the lamb seam-side-up on a rack set in a roasting pan. Let it go in a 400-degree oven until it reaches at least 140-degrees (for medium-rare; you can extend the time for your desired level of doneness). When it’s done, remove it and cover it with foil, letting it sit at least 15 minutes.

While the lamb sits, boil a half-cup basalmic vinegar in a small saucepan on high heat for about 4-5 minutes. Stir in five tablespoons of butter, three more of honey and 1/3-cup of sliced figs. Stir this all until the butter is melted, remove it from the heat and add five teaspoons of chopped fresh basil.

Untie the lamb and cut it into 1/2-inch thick slices, drizzling each slice with the fig sauce. You can garnish it with mint and basil leaves.

In addition to the lamb, figs are high in amino acids, which some researchers believe can increase libido as well as stamina. Garlic is thought to act as a sort of internal aphrodisiac, heating the body. Basil is said to not only boost drive, but also bolster female fertility.

Pair it with a nice Pinot Noir or Merlot and you’ll be set for a meal to remember.

But wait, who could forget desert?

While simple, this succulent treat is romantic and libido-boosting.

Chocolate-covered Strawberries

Melt together a bag of chocolate chips (or 16 ounces of dark or semisweet chocolate) in a double boiler with two tablespoons of shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth. Spear a pound of fresh strawberries with toothpicks and dip them into the chocolatey mix. Let these cool and you’ve got a fun finger food to help set the mood.

While going out for a nice meal is more customary for a dinner-for-two, you can control what you eat and the romance it could lead to later, with a meal like this.
