PORT ORCHARD — While Leone Rinehart’s name is familiar in the South Kitsap area, most folks probably know her as a teacher in the South Kitsap School District for 19 years.
Rinehart, who was a longtime member of the Port Orchard chapter of the American Federation of Teachers, began teaching in 1972 in Orchard Heights Elementary. She moved to Goldendale and continued to teach as a substitute in all grades as needed in three different districts until retiring at age 70 in 1998.
Since then, Rinehart has moved over to Retsil, where her daughters say she has taken to the “dorm life” at the facility. Her family said Rinehart is about to turn 90 and will celebrate at a party at the chapel at Retsil on Saturday, Nov. 10. The party will run from 2-5 p.m.
The family said her former students are welcome to join the celebration, set for 1141 Beach Dr. E., in Port Orchard. For more information, contact Cyndee Steussy at 253-941-8116.
