The Roxy Bremerton Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting arts and culture, has acquired the historic 1941 movie theater located in the heart of Bremerton.
Under the leadership of president Blake Yarbrough and executive director Michael Goodnow, the foundation reaffirms its commitment to showcasing the best of arthouse cinema, preserving the building’s rich history, supporting the local community, and providing live entertainment experiences, a foundation news release says.
The acquisition was made possible by the fundraising efforts led by then-president Steve Sego. The foundation raised a significant portion of the costs through grants, including from the C. Keith Birkenfeld Trust, Ben B. Cheney Foundation, Cowlitz Indian Tribe, state Building for the Arts, and Bremerton Central Lions, along with individual donors.
The seller of the theater was Sound West Group, a Bremerton-based real estate developer led by Wes Larson and Mike Brown. In 2018, Sound West Group restored the theater, preserving its unique architectural features.
