Do you like adventures? Just read about a woman, who at the age of 86 is in the Peace Corps and will finish her stint in the mountains of Morocco next year.
Now that’s an adventure.
However, the adventures I am thinking of are at lot tamer … like trying new foods or traveling by train to a destination of more than 500 miles.
I used to travel quite a bit. Favorites were Seaside, Oregon and Chelan, Washington and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho — or sometimes, just to Seattle for an overnight stay to see a play or ballet or opera.
Seems my travel days have gotten fewer because of all the meetings and activities I seem to get involved with. I have my Memoir Writing Group twice a month. I play bridge twice a month in the Thursday Ladies Bridge Group (or more if I get asked to sub). I teach at Tacoma Community College (that is over for this year). And I am involved with the Fields End writing group on Bainbridge Island.
So when do I write? Not as much as I really want to. I like to write in the mornings. Seems my brain works best then. If I can get 2,500 words down on paper (or on the computer, really), I feel like I’ve accomplished something. Today (so far), I have written about 1,000 words. Got an idea for a story about an apartment complex for seniors and one of the committees is the Regulatory Committee. Would you be surprised that what they regulate is who they will eliminate? (Yes, this is a mystery. A relative of one that is eliminated is checking on what happened and why.) Might just be a story instead of a novel, but it is in the works.
But back to adventures. An adventure can be as simple as trying new foods too. Saw an advertisement for bacon-wrapped dates. Sounds good to me. Or an adventure could be to shop at a different grocery store or to check out the Antique Mall in Edmonds, or taking a walk in a different part of Hansville, like down to the light house at Point No Point or around Driftwood Key or Shorewood or Cliffside or Eglon.
You can make your life full of adventures by just changing your attitude about doing new or different things. Why not give it a try? If it doesn’t make you happy, you can always go back to your everyday ways, right?
