The Kingston Art Gallery will soon offer more room to browse and showcase local artists. The renovation will add 600 square feet and a rooftop garden.

Gallery contractors broke ground on the planned addition last week. Fingers are crossed that the new space will be finished by early summer.

It’s the second piece of the renovation project spearheaded by building owner Susan Rodgers in an attempt to make the gallery more visible and integral in the Kingston community.

Gallery members believe it will bring more artists out of the woodwork.

Since the first part of the remodel, which replaced the gallery’s former garage-style doors with a new window-plated, double-doored entrance, KAG gallery manager Patty Watson-Halfhill said three more artists have already been added to the roster.

Colored-pencil whiz Christy Camerer, fiber artist Ann Macki and raku and pottery worker Caralyn Kieckaffer have joined in the past few months, while the work of Hansville neon glass artist duo Laurie Lewis and Joan Peter is in the jurying process right now.

“We’re looking to see who’s got something different,” Watson-Halfhill said.
