The 2009 Kingston High School Grad Night Committee is planning a Community Garage Sale from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19 to help fund a safe and fun Grad Night Event for seniors.
Donations are being collected including gently used and in good condition household items, tools, books, children’s clothing and sports equipment (no electronics, please).
Items may be dropped of between 7-8 a.m. July 19 at the Kingston Thriftway parking lot. Volunteers are also needed that morning to help price items and during the sale. Table setup begins at 6 a.m. Contact Dona at fredway@embarqmail.com for more information.
August WASL for ninth-graders
Students who were in ninth grade during the spring 2008 WASL testing are eligible to participate in the August testing.
Because ninth-grade reports are available early to students and they will know their WASL status in June, they now are eligible to register for the August administration. Previously, ninth graders didn’t receive score reports until early September.
All eligible students can register for the August WASL, scheduled for Aug. 11-14, at www.k12.wa.us/waslregistration or by calling (866) 400-WASL (9275).
Interact Club
installs officers
North Kitsap and Kingston high schools installed Interact Club officers for the 2008-2009 school year. KHS Interact officers are Taylor Wall, president; Ashley Larson, vice-president; and Jordan Wall, treasurer.
NKHS officers are Conner Gallagher, president; Melissa Kunold, vice-president; Ali Howe, secretary; Megan Herndon, treasurer; Mack Kunold, historian; and Tolen McGrego, public relations.

Crabtree gets
sweet reward
Peter Crabtree, 18, of Kingston, won the 2008 National Federation of Independent Business/Visa Inc. Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. In recognition of his entrepreneurial achievements and spirit, Crabtree was awarded a $10,000 educational scholarship towards tuition at Seattle University. He was chosen for this honor, which was presented to him at a ceremony in Washington D.C., from more than 8,000 candidates.
Crabtree founded his company, CBC Chocolates, at the age of 15 as a way to earn money for college. By 2006, CBC Chocolates was a licensed wholesale producer and in 2007, he opened a 1,200-square-foot store in Poulsbo with a kitchen where all of the chocolates are made.
Flotsam and Jetsam club announces awards
The Hansville Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club announced awards of $2,650 in scholarships and grants.
Stephanie Skelly of Poulsbo, a graduating senior from North Kitsap High School was awarded $1,000. She plans to major in environmental studies at Willamette University.
Christopher Hall of Poulsbo, a graduating senior and valedictorian from Kingston High School, was awarded $1,000. He will enter the University of Colorado.
Joanne Kaiserman, a 2006 graduate of North Kitsap High School and a continuing-education student at the University of San Francisco, was awarded $450.
Martha Goldengay was awarded a grant of $200 for the north Driftwood Key sign beautification. This project will emphasize drought-tolerant and sun-loving plants.
The garden club thanks all who patronized its annual plant sale and gave generously to the scholarship fund.
