BREMERTON — The Bremerton Central Lions are hosting an open house for the community to come and learn more about what they do.
Starting at 5:30 p.m. March 9 at the Rice Fergus Miller offices, 275 Fifth St., the open house will include social time, as well as a 30-minute presentation highlighting what the club has done for the community, and what Lions Clubs have done worldwide. Light food fare is provided; the open house is free.
The Bremerton Central Lions Club, now in its 92nd year, is part of an international organization founded with a desire to serve our communities. With approximately 46,000 clubs in over 200 countries worldwide, each club serves in its own way, appropriate to its own environment.
Over the years, the Bremerton club and its charitable foundation have provided over $500,000 to those in our midst that need help. The recipients range from our schools to the hungry, as well as the mentally and physically challenged.
A major focus of all Lions Clubs is direct aid to those that suffer from visual impairment, and stems from a personal challenge from Helen Keller in 1925 to become the “Knights of the Blind.” Equally important, though, is the direct participation of our members in a variety of work projects such as Untied Way and Habitat for Humanity, including some created by the club itself.
Lynn Woodward, a membership chair, wrote, “The Lions motto is simply ‘we serve,’ and we would like you to know how that is done. You are also encouraged to bring others that have similar interests as yourself. The atmosphere is cordial and friendly — we’re just letting you know what we do and how we do it. We hope to see you there.”
