Mustangs rev up Port Orchard | Kitsap Week

More than 200 Ford Mustangs — in all shapes, colors and sizes, from 1964 to the present — will roll into downtown Port Orchard for the 26th annual Mustangs on the Waterfront on July 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 200 Ford Mustangs — in all shapes, colors and sizes, from 1964 to the present — will roll into downtown Port Orchard for the 26th annual Mustangs on the Waterfront, sponsored by the Kitsap Mustang Club.

The car show is July 27 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This year, the event will celebrate the 50th year of the Ford Mustang, which was introduced on April 17, 1964. Since then, the Mustang has undergone several transformations to its current fifth generation.

Susan Stadshaug, co-chair of the event, said some additional 1964 1/2 Mustangs are scheduled to participate in the show.

“It will be fun to see more of some of the first-ever Mustangs,” she said.

Stadshaug said the club purchased plenty of 50th anniversary memorabilia that will be raffled.

“We’re also doing something, a surprise for the show participants,” Stadshaug said. “In our raffle, we’re going to have some $50 cash prizes along with other items.”

Because it’s the Mustang’s golden anniversary, trophies will feature a special gold emblem.

This year’s Mustangs on the Waterfront T-shirt will feature four cars from the Kitsap Mustang Club.

The show has been rolling onto the waterfront since 1992 and has grown from 74 rides to more than 200 cars. In fact, there was a record 223 show car entries in 2013.

“It grows little by little each year,” Stadshaug said. “The show is unique because it features just Mustangs.”

Drivers will motor into downtown about 8 a.m. Sunday.

Last year, a turquoise 1965 Mustang coupe with white vinyl — entered in the stock class division — won Best of Show in the 1964½-1978 Division. A 2012 Boss limited-edition Laguna Seca, black with red stripes and accents, was selected Best of Show in the 1979 to Present Division.

The Mayor’s Choice Award went to a pristine 1968 California Special that has more than 450,000 miles and from the Pierce County Mustang Club.

Overall, first-, second- and third-place trophies will be awarded in 36 categories.

Stadshaug said there will be Mustangs from throughout the state as well as others from Canada, California, Oregon and Idaho.

A poker run is slated July 26 for participants and will run from Port Orchard to Gig Harbor.

Stadshaug said the club, which features nearly 60 members from around Kitsap County, works hard each year to put on the annual show.
