While he’d always had a passion for film, Nathan Lee began writing, producing and shooting a small show called The Friday Feature during his time at Poulsbo Junior High.
An Olympic College graduate from the North Kitsap High School class of 1999, he went on to explore the world of film at Brigham Young University in Utah, where he lives.
This weekend, the filmmaker returns with his short film, “Inspector 42,” which will premiere to his hometown crowd with two showings at 11 a.m. and noon, Oct. 17 the Kingston Firehouse Theatre off Highway 104. Tickets are $3.
While at face value the film has a comedic concept, Lee says at its core it’s a personal and serious story.
Filmed in black and white, shot in 1950s-style noir, Inspector 42 (the title character) is a top-notch shirt-safety inspector. One morning after missing his quota, he decides to let a number of unsafe shirts into the world hoping to save face, but his actions inflict dire consequences.
Already the winner of the Kodak film award for cinematography, the short film is expected to be a strong contender for a student Academy Award.
