63 artists in en plein air event
POULSBO — Any way you measure it, the numbers show the first “Paint Out Poulsbo” was a great success.
The “en plein air” art event was sponsored by the Peninsula Music & Arts Society, with support from Artist’s Edge in Poulsbo and the Northwest College of Art and Design.
Sixty-three artists of all ages took up the challenge of creating a finished work of art in 96 hours for a juried exhibition on May 7 at NCAD.
There were works by nine professional artists, 20 adult amateur artists, and 34 entries by students ranging from age 5 to college age.
More than 150 people came to see the art and listen to live music and dance performed by the Farragut Brass Band, Na Hula O Hall’a Nani Dancers, and the A’eko Instrumental group.
And the music and arts society made some money to use for student scholarships.
“There were so many volunteers,” society treasurer Inez Schwartz said. “All of the performers were there as a contribution to the festival … The gallery was filled with art and the sounds of the music and dance brought it all together.”
