If you’ve been out and about this summer, enjoying Port Orchard’s festivals, concerts restaurants and parks, chances are you’ve crossed paths with a camera crew in action.
That would be local video company North Woods Productions, which is filming a new visitor and tourist video for the Port Orchard/South Kitsap Chamber of Commerce.
“The title of the video is “Ferries, Bridges and Boats: the Adventure Begins with the Journey,” said Chamber Executive Director Coreen Haydock Johnson. “Port Orchard has a lot to offer visitors, whether from across the Sound or from across the country. Our scenic waterways roads and bridges are a great asset, making Port Orchard both a great destination or ‘staycation’ adventure.”
“We’re having a lot of fun with this theme,” added Ron Finney of North Woods Productions. “In the video, we have groups traveling to Port Orchard via the ferries, over the new Narrows Bridge, sailing into the town’s marina and even landing in the bay on a Kenmore Air float plane.”
And the experience has been as informative for the crew as it will hopefully be for those who view the final product.
“I’ve really gained a new appreciation for our community while producing this video,” said Finney, an Olalla resident. “There’s been lots of action to shoot this summer, including Fathoms o’Fun, the Cris Craft Rendevous, Festivals by the Bay, etc.”
One thing the veteran videographer particularly enjoyed was meeting lots of local people who voluntarily took part in the video.
“I’ve got water skiers doing flips, kids doing jumps with their bikes at South Kitsap Community Park, families at Long Lake, golfers at McCormick Woods and dramatic cooking scenes at Amy’s by the Bay.”
“Producing a video is something new for us,” Johnson explained. “I’m really proud of our Tourism Committee. They’ve shown a lot of creativity and tremendous collaboration with the production company.”
Once the video is completed, it will be shown online at www.portorchard.com, played at the Chamber Visitors’ Center and distributed on DVD to prospective visitors to the area.
“Tourism is a vital part of our local economy, and we expect this video to be a good tool for attracting more visitors to Port Orchard and South Kitsap,” Johnson said.
The video is slated for completion early in September.
North Woods Productions recently completed another visitor’s video for the city of Gig Harbor.
