Princesses from Manchester and beyond gathered at the first Fancy Nancy Princess Party at the Manchester Library Saturday afternoon.

At 2 p.m., the library’s activity room was bursting with young girls and their moms, who spilled out into the stacks to find places to sit.

The party was the first of its kind at the library, who hired Young People’s Librarian Heidi Larsen last fall.

Larsen is now hosting teen events and storytimes, and though she said no one came to her first storytime, now her events are well attended — especially the party Saturday.

Antoinette DeWalt of Manchester brought her 3-year-old daughter Aneemara, who happily became engrossed in decorating a butterfly shaped cookie with sprinkles and pink frosting.

Of course, much of the frosting made it into the toddler’s mouth, as well, so her mother stood guard to make sure the spoon she was using did not return to the bowl.

Opposite the cookies and tea was a long table where attendees could decorate crowns and other items to their liking, and a corner with hats, necklaces and even butterfly wings for donning.

After checking their outfits in a large mirror, all the princesses could have their pictures taken on the “red carpet.”

DeWalt said she was very appreciative of the library’s new programs, and has been bringing her daughter to the storytimes, as well.

The next storytimes are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. March 23 for toddlers, and 11:30 a.m. for pre-schoolers.
