SILVERDALE — Bloodworks Northwest in Silverdale accepted donations through 4 p.m. Dec. 18 and will be open Dec. 19 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for donations.
In the wake of the Amtrak train derailment on an overpass along I 5 south of Dupont early Dec. 18, a call for blood donations went out.
Lines were reported at many Bloodworks Northwest locations.
In Silverdale, by 1 p.m. the wait time to give was about 90 minutes. But about a dozen people stood waiting to register anyway, many of the saying they came in response to the call for blood.
Besides Silverdale, Bloodworks Northwest has donor centers in Bellevue, Bellingham, Everett, Lynnwood, Federal Way, North Seattle, Tukwila, Olympia, Vancouver, and Eugene Oregon.
For more information, go to www.bloodworksnw.org. Appointments can be made online or by calling 800-398-7888. The Silverdale location is 3230 NW Randall Way, Silverdale, phone: 360-308-7340.
While the immediate need was met Dec. 18, Bloodworks Northwest officials said donations are still needed because the holiday period is a slow time for donations and the need for blood can be strong.
