Bremelog.com hosts an artful and possibly quite entertaining mayoral debate, Oct. 14 at a sixth avenue cocktail lounge.
A slightly obscure Bremerton blog — the cleaverly tagged bremelog.com — has arranged an intrinsically Bremertonian, quasi-revolutionary mayoral forum.
The event unabashedly mashes up music, booze and politics on a Wednesday evening at a cocktail lounge in Charleston. A “conversation” featuring Patty Lent and Will Maupin — the primary-winning candidates to replace Cary Bozeman as Bremerton’s mayor— will be featured and administered by the bearded Bremelog.com editor (though not the actual Bremelogger himself) — West Bremerton resident, Seattle Weekly writer Chris Kornelis — Oct. 14 at the Hi Fidelity, 2711 Sixth St. in Bremerton.
Doors open at 7 p.m., and the evening is, obviously, 21+.
The debate will be followed by the high-energy experimental/indie Idaho band Finn Riggins — technically more “Boise” than “Bremerton,” but still a pretty wicked band — and, quite likely, plenty of libations.
This past weekend, Seattle got a preview of the “Bremerton-style” forum at Seattle Weekly’s Reverb fest in Ballard.
“Average Joe” Mallahan took on “Mike the Bike” McGinn — the leading candidates for Seattle Mayor as dubbed by the evening’s quick-witted and spiffied-up emcees — debated in front of a full house at the iconic Irish pub, the Conor Bryne.
While the questions weren’t exactly all “municipal,” the night got off to a good start when one of the candidates had opted to buy an extra minute of time for an answer by taking a shot of Jameson whiskey — on the very first question.
