Situated behind the Walker-Ames House and the General Store in Port Gamble, overlooking Gamble Bay, fans of outdoor cinema will be set to take in the views along with a free, family-friendly movie as part of the town’s Sunset Cinema on the lawn.
Organizers were hoping for an entire eight-part series of movies for this summer as the event’s appeal has grown, however, lack of sponsors relegated that series into just two showings — one will be at 8:30 p.m. July 13 and one in August. The town of Port Gamble and Olympic Property Group will be putting both on in response to public buzz from its first two years of showing just one movie.
“We’re just going to go ahead and do it (despite the lack of sponsorship),” said organizer Julie McAfee. “I can’t tell you how much interest I’ve had.”
McAfee will likely be getting a few more calls of interest in the coming week as she said she is not allowed to disclose the movie titles to the press.
“We can have people call in and ask, but we can’t publicize it,” she said. “It will be something like ‘Milo and Otis,’ I can say that, or something like ‘Homeward Bound.’”
The two installments of Sunset Cinema in 2007 will align topically with other events that are happening in Port Gamble. The first session will be in line with the Muddy Paw Dog Agility Trials July 13-15, while the second session will be matched with the town’s second annual Maritime Music Festival Aug. 19.
“For that one, we’ll be showing some kind of swash-buckling movie,” McAfee added.
Each session of Sunset Cinema will begin around dusk, or 8:30 p.m., on the grassy hill behind the General Store and the Walker-Ames House. To find out the exact titles which will be shown call McAfee at (360) 297-8074.
