Despite a looming threat of rainfall, fans young and old came out in force Saturday to watch the Kitsap Pumas take on the Washington Crossfire.
“It’s more than a soccer game,” said Patrick Leonard, a sophomore at Olympic High School. “It’s more like a family thing.”
Sporting white and blue flags, scarves and jerseys, more than 20 other students joined Leonard on the sidelines to watch the game.
Leonard said he and some schoolmates created a Facebook fan page to help organize weekly trips to the Pumas games.
The page has 88 members.
Leonard said he hopes to eventually organize trips to away games.
The Pumas won the match 2-0, remaining undefeated and bringing their record to 4-0. With the win, they qualified for the U.S. Open Cup.
The Pumas will play Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Bremerton against the Abbotsford Mariners.
