The Sickness spreads back to Bremerton

It’s not too often that a band hailing from the Lone Star State makes the 2,350-mile trip to the Northwest to indulge Kitsap.

Based on that school of thought, it’s worth noting and getting excited for a band that is motoring across nearly the entire country and playing back-to-back shows here Friday. Not to mention that said band likely ranks near the top of the list of three-piece all-female rock-and-roll bands in the abundant Austin, Texas scene.

This week, Adrian and the Sickness is making its way back to Bremerton.

Upon arrival the band will be dishing out a double dose of its music with an early all ages show at the Artists For Freedom and Unity benefit for the needy starting at 6 p.m. Nov. 9, followed by a staple show starting at 9:30 p.m. at Winterland later that night. Each show is $5.

At the AFU (318 N Callow Ave in Bremerton), the Sickness will share the stage with a host of locals including The Extinct, Triple Forte, Product of Thought and more while classic rockers The Isms and the new age Bremerband Ruxton Towers will warm it up for Adrian, Heather and Nina at the Winterland (1220 Sylvan Way in Bremerton).

Adrian and the Sickness is described as an “estrogen-driven power trio” featuring Nina Singh on the skins, Heather Webb on bass and the licks of Gibson SG-yielding frontwoman Adrian Conner — whose split personality is that of “Angus Young” in the well-known Northwest-born AC-DC cover band Hell’s Belles.

The Sickness has been known to get down with a few covers as well — like the classic “Radar Love” which was recorded and produced by legendary female rocker Kathy Valentine (of the Go-Gos) and is posted at www.myspace.com/adrianandthesickness — but they’ve also put out two full length CDs on Conner’s label Fantom Records.

Currently, the ladies are laying down tracks for a third with Valentine.

Earlier this summer the band released a live CD/DVD called “Get Up! Get Out!”

which put the devout and aggressive energy of a Sickness show at fans’ disposal. But even with live sound and live video harnessed, nothing compares Adrian to the Sickness playing three feet in front of your face.
