Lady Washington, Hawaiian Chieftain to visit Bremerton and Brownsville this month.

Both the young and old will have the chance to play pirates starting next week.

“I sometimes think the adults have more fun than the kids do,” said Brownsville Port Manager Jerry Rowland. “The adults are grown-up and living the adventure.”

The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will arrive at the Bremerton Marina at 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12. This will be the ships’ first time at the Bremerton waterfront and Bremerton Marina Operations Manager Kathy Garcia could not be happier.

“Hopefully there’s lots of people coming,” she said. “We’re anticipating a large crowd.”

The Grays Harbor Historical Seaport Authority asked to bring the 18th century replica vessels to Bremerton. Dockside tours are slated for 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13 and the ships will set sail for their next destination at 2 p.m. that afternoon.

“I’d like to see them come back whenever they can,” Garcia said.

The Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain will make their fourth appearance at the Brownsville Marina starting Thursday, Aug. 20. Dockside tours are 12:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 21; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 22; and 12:30 to 6 p.m. Aug. 24. Battle sails are 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 22 and 23 and an adventure sail runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Aug. 23.

“Battle sails are generally always full,” Rowland said. “It’s just good fun.”

He also anticipates a large crowd at the Brownsville Marina because the tall ships only come around once a year.

“It’s not something you see every day,” he said. “It’s just a blast from the past kind of thing.”
