FRIDAY
Rum Rebellion Returns
Rare is the band who can play on the same bill as a thrashing punk rock band one month and be featured at Folklife the next. But it’s a rarity exemplified by the enigmatic Portland band Rum Rebellion.
It’s the chaos and anarchy of street punk matched with Oi! anthems and sea shanties, played with traditional Irish instruments, it’s what they like to call “Oi!rish.”
They’re back in Bremerton to headline a diverse bill from punk to thrash to Oi!rish tonight with Seattle bands Golden Shower Child and The Them, …Is Electric, In Due Time and Country Controll.
All Ages, $5 at the Charleston, 333 Callow Ave. in Bremerton. Info: www.myspace.com/pdxrumrebellion.
SATURDAY
.357 String Band
From the bad lands of Wisconsin, comes another enigmatic amalgamated band — the .357 String Band — blending the punk energy and antics with traditional bluegrass and acoustic instruments.
This ain’t your grand-dad’s bluegrass, they say, this is street grass.
The four-piece employs banjo, mandolin, guitar, stand-up bass and four-part harmony. No percussion except for the beat of the audience.
From the street corners and basement shows of their infancy, the .357 String Band has grown to multiple European and American tours over the past few years, fueled by ambition. They come to Bremerton on another such tour, across North Dakota, Montana, Idaho and Washington to play Winterland with James Hunnicutt and Wreckin’ Machine at 9:30 p.m. April 25.
That night’s also the Slaughter County Roller Vixens after party. 21+, $10 cover ($8 in advance) at Winterland, 1220 Sylvan Way in Bremerton.

SUNDAY
Dr. Know
After rising to cult fame in the late-80’s California hardcore scene, Dr. Know seems a band that has seen its share of ups and downs. They’ve endured multiple incarnations, multiple disbandments, multiple reunions and many fans listening and singing along the way.
It looks like they’re back on an upswing these days with a new album this year. Touring in support, they come to Bremerton with a heavy-hitting lineup of locals: The Assassinators, Y.I.A, Madmartigan and Bad Genes at 7 p.m. April 26 at the Chuck, 333 Callow Ave. in Bremerton. All Ages, $7.
