Olympic High School to present Henrik Ibsen’s famed play.

The Olympic High School (OHS) theatre group is presenting its version of the Henrik Ibsen play, “A Doll’s House,” at 7 p.m. April 22-25 at OHS. Tickets to the show are $5 with a student ASB card or $7 without.

The play, which was written in 1879, follows a married woman as she frets about a loan she made behind her husband’s back and the circumstances and consequences which follow.

David Clough, director of the play and an OHS teacher, said one of the reasons the play was chosen was because it is taught in the school’s curriculum.

“It is taught in English as well as women’s studies classes during the course of the school year,” Clough said.

Another reason he chose the play was because it is a classic, he said.

“It is just one of those timeless classics that is a milestone in theatre in that it is part of the realism movement,” Clough said.

The play includes students who have experience as well as a few who are first-timers, like Louis Steffens, who plays the role of Dr. Rank, and a German exchange student, Soren Theders, who plays the part of Nils Krogstad, the gentleman from whom the lead character receives a loan.

The lead, Nora Helmer, is played by senior Jess Hals who has a little experience in the theatre.

“I have been acting since my sophomore year, so three years now,” she said.

While Hals is genuinely excited to be doing the play, there is a melancholy feeling overall.

“I am really excited about this play because it will be my last high school play,” Hals said. “It is kind of sad, but it is fun.”

Also included are Monique Martin who plays Ms. Linde, Emily Carlson who is playing Anne Marie, Sean Mclain who plays Nora’s husband Torvald Helmer, and stage manager Dylan Snodgrass.
