POULSBO — This Tuesday, Peter Heller — NPR contributor and adventure writer of “Hell or High Water,” “Kook” and “The Whale Warriors” — will be at the Poulsbo Library to read from his debut novel, “The Dog Stars.”

West Sound Reads! is a consortium of Kitsap Regional Library and West Sound independent booksellers to bring premium authors to Kitsap County. Reserved seating is available with advance book purchase from participating bookstores — Liberty Bay Books in Poulsbo and Eagle Harbor Book Co. on Bainbridge Island.

The novel is a dystopian story of life after a flu pandemic. Publishers Weekly give it a starred review, saying “…this novel, perhaps the world’s most poetic survival guide, reads as if Billy Collins had novelized one of George Romero’s zombie flicks. From start to finish, Heller carries the reader aloft on graceful prose, intense action, and deeply felt emotion.” It even features Bainbridge Island’s Sage fishing rods, which play a part in this survival tale.

The reading and book signing begins at 7:30 p.m., at the Poulsbo Library, 700 NE Lincoln Road. For more information, contact www.krl.org, www.libertybaybooks.com, and (360) 779-5909.
